Awards History
Introduction
The WIA Federal Awards were established in 1947 and have been running continuously ever since, aided by many volunteers.
Over the past 60 years many new awards have been introduced and some short term awards discontinued. Rules have also changed slightly over the years catering for new trends, modes and band extensions.
From the 1st. March 2007 all existing Federal Awards were updated and integrated into the new National WIA Awards Program.
As of 2008 the WIA Awards program was further enhanced with the introduction of the Awards Committee. The Committee, comprising a mix of respected DXer’s and Contesters, was formed to aid the Awards Manager with the administration and functions of the Awards program in general.
Since its introduction over 4,000 awards have been despatched.

Current Status
The Awards Program maintains two active DXCC programs; they are the “DXCC Standings” covering combined band modes for a single DXCC Status and the “Multi-band DXCC Program” covering 11 individual bands that are linked from 3 to 11BDXCC awards.
Until recently the WIA Awards was managed in a traditional paper based manner. Since 2001, largely thanks to the efforts of Mal Johnson VK6LC, we have moved on to an almost completely computer based system of smart documents for both Award applications and administration.
The Awards program currently manages almost 300 active DXCC files and it has a growth rate of approximately 10%. per year. Of these over 75% of participants are now operating using our WIA computerised Awards documents.
Our Awards are free to all financial WIA members; overseas participants pay a nominal fee.
Computerisation has decreased the processing time considerably especially when using then new WIA smart documents. Paper based versions of the online documents are still welcomed.
A more timely process of document or record retrieval is also now possible.
The WIA Awards program also invites overseas stations to apply and participate in our program.
Our Awards program is funded by the WIA Board and its members. Sponsorships and extra contributions from participants also help fund the program. These all help to enables us to improve and develop new awards and maintain our WIA Awards program in general.
On behalf of the WIA Awards Committee please enjoy our WIA Awards program, now and into the future. We look forward to your participation.
Awards Manager.
