About Don Wilschefski

Born in Mundubbera, Queensland, and attended School at Riverleigh, Mundubbera, and Gayndah schools.

A degree course in electrical engineering was studied at Queensland University from 1973 to 1977.

Originally licensed in 1975 in Queensland as VK4ZLW, while studying at university.

Moved to South Africa in 1977 and eventually became licensed as ZS6CBK. Became interested in amateur satellites and worked 13 countries on OSCAR 10.

Returning to Brisbane in 1984, initially with the callsign VK4FBA, and then VK4BY. Became interested in digital communications and operated packet radio equipment for many years. Was a member of the Queensland Digital Group, and Brisbane North Radio Club.

Moved to Rockhampton in 1991 and joined the Rockhampton Branch of the WIA, later to become the Rockhampton & District Amateur Radio Club Inc.

Registered Professional Electrical Engineer in Queensland, and currently employed by Queensland Magnesia Pty Ltd, as Chief Electrical Engineer.

Member of a Rotary Club since 1993, and currently a member of the Rotary Club of Rockhampton - Sunrise. Have participated in Rotarians On Amateur Radio.

Served as a board member of the Wireless Institute of Australia.

Trying to get interested in DSTAR.
Amateur Satellites, although there are too many to keep track of now!
APRS, when I get some gear.
6 metres when the band is open.
Catching up with people at Hamfests.
Making antennas that work.
Buying new radio gear!

Hobbies

Rotary participation.
Pre-retirement wander lust to spend as much as possible travelling, before I can't.

Family

Married, with wife Rosemary, and children Natalie and Chris. Natalie was married on 15th February 2008 to Nathan.
