Sunday the 20th May saw the WIA Radio and Electronics Convention - Beyond 2020 Open Field Day, held in Broadwater Parklands Southport on the Gold Coast.

There were displays setup by Amateur Radio operators (Microwave hosted by Redcliffe & District Radio Club), EME (demonstrated by Rex VK7MO), MMDVM (presented by Amateur Radio Central West Group) & Tuning Duplexers (presented by Drew VK4ZXI). The Microwave Shootout was held with the assistance of VK4 and VK5 operators using 47, 76 and 122 GHz. Alongside the Shootout was Rex VK7MO, demonstrating his 10GHz EME, communicating with a station over in Texas (USA). Drew VK4ZXI showed how even metal buckets can be fabricated & tuned as a cavity filter for repeaters.

There were plenty of HF products and services on display by Australian HF Touring Club, Bushcomm HF Antenna & Radio, VKS737 Radio Network, and Australian Safety Net.

RF Solutions demonstrated the Icom IC-7610 & showcased a variety of other Amateur Radio products. Future Systems demonstrated the latest in SDR by Flex Radio. Bushcomm displayed their HF antenna systems and the latest Barrett 4050 HF SDR transceiver.

At the other end of the field we had displays of specialised communications trucks, vans and trailers, from Queensland Emergency Services and Broadcast Television.

Plenty of food and drink throughout the day with a coffee van on site, and the hosts (Gold Coast Amateur Radio Society) providing a BBQ lunch.
