The Latest WIA Affiliated Club - VK9XX

The WIA Board at its July meeting welcomed the latest affiliated club to the Wireless Institute of Australia.

The Christmas Island Amateur Radio Club has club callsign VK9XX and welcomes dxpeditioners to the island.

Christmas Island is an Australian external territory located in the Indian Ocean off the North West coast of Western Australia.

It is about 350 kilometres south of Indonesia and about 1,550 kilometres north-west of the closest point on the Australian mainland.

Its population is over 1800 and climate is tropical as the latitude is only 10 degrees.

It has an area of 135 square kilometres and has prolific flora and fauna. The best known is the red crab. There are millions of red crabs that migrate around November each year.
