Wednesday Morning 1st of August 2007 the Scout Association of Australia will be celebrating the 100th anniversary of Scouting.

There will be a major event at Government House here in Canberra with a "Scouting Sunrise" being held.
Why do we as amateurs want to know ?

Well, from about 6:00 AM - 9:30 AM and 6:30 PM - at least 10:00 PM (Local CANBERRA Time), VK1BP will be on air from Government House. VK1BP will be utilising the Bulls Head VHF Repeater as a link into the International Scoutings ECHOLINK system. As part of this activity, the Governor General (who also holds the position of Chief Scout of Australia) will have his, and a Scout youth members speech broadcast out via the echolink system commencing at around 7:45 AM.

Mike, VK1TMT, has undertaken a lot of planning for this event, and the Canberra Region Amateur Radio Club committee has agreed to the request to use the Bulls Head VHF Repeater VK1RBH for this activity. We would ask that the frequency be left clear for the use of VK1BP during the above times, and we invite all Amateurs to listen out for the station(s) from Australia and around the world who will be taking part.

Some of the other things associated with it are:

ABC Radio (666) will be doing an outside broadcast to cover our event from 5:30am to 9:00am and will be interviewing a number of youth members and adult leaders.

MIX 106.3 will also be crossing live to the event to interview youth members. They will also have give away prizes.

The "Today" breakfast program will be crossing live to our event at 8:10am and 8:40am to cover youth activities and to conduct interviews.
