Activation Of VI0ANZAC unable to proceed

Date : 08 / 08 / 2015
Author : Fred Swainston - VK3DAC

I have just received information from Antarctica and have been advised that the overnight storm damage at Casey base will not allow the activation to go ahead as planned for Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th August. We will be able to advise a new dates shortly.

Doug VK0DMV at Casey station advised: "We had our fair share of damage from the storm that went through yesterday and there are still areas to be checked out. Wind reached 112 knots (207 kilometres/hour), but for most of yesterday and last night it was around 100 knots (185 kilometres/hour). There is very poor visibility, so I have not been able to check out the state of any of my aerials or access. There is always some damage after these sort of blows, this is the worse to date this year."

Apologies for the delay but operations at Casey and safety are paramount.

A new date of 29-30 August is proposed, subject to weather and work commitments a Casey Station.
Confirmation will be provided here via the WIA website.
