About the author: John Fielding is an electronics engineer who first became licensed in 1972 as G8FPH. In 1984 he immigrated to South Africa where he joined a military contractor as Chief Engineer, upgraded his license, and became ZS5JF. Over the years John has served on several South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) committees for radio communication standards.
