WICEN NSW Continues to Serve Community and Emergency Communications Needs
WICEN NSW continues to demonstrate the valuable role that amateur radio operators play in supporting both emergency services and community events across Australia. Operating as a specialist support squad within the Volunteer Rescue Association of New South Wales (VRA Rescue NSW), WICEN NSW specialises in providing tactical radio communications during emergencies, land search operations, remote area training exercises and a range of public events. Drawing upon the skills and experience developed through amateur radio, members stand ready to provide reliable communications support whenever and wherever it is needed.
Beyond emergency activations, WICEN NSW members regularly support community initiatives including Dementia Australia's Memory Walk and Jog events, with teams recently assisting on the Gold Coast and preparing for upcoming activities in Brisbane. These events not only provide an important service to the community but also offer valuable opportunities for members to maintain and enhance their operational skills in real-world environments. WICEN NSW's ongoing commitment highlights how amateur radio continues to make a meaningful contribution to community resilience, emergency preparedness and public service while fostering camaraderie and practical communications expertise among its volunteers.
