If Antarctica is still on your DX wish list, now is an excellent opportunity to add one of the world's rarest operating locations to your logbook. At least two Australian amateurs are currently active from Australian Antarctic research stations and expect to remain on air until around December 2026, operating whenever station duties and the Antarctic weather allow.
Tom Blunt, VK2TBC, is operating as VK0TBC from Casey Station, Antarctica. Tom is active on SSB and FT8, with much of his activity currently on 20 metres FT8 while additional SSB operating continues as time permits. He maintains a dedicated website with operating updates, station information and QSL details at Link, making it easy to keep track of his latest activity.
Meanwhile, Dave Short, VK2JDS, is on the air as VK0DS from Davis Station, Antarctica. Dave is operating primarily FT8, with activity dependent on work commitments and the challenging Antarctic environment. Further information, operating notes and QSL details can be found on his QRZ page at Link.
Whether you're chasing a new DXCC entity, filling a gap in your Worked All Continents award, or simply looking for a memorable Antarctic contact, keep an eye on the clusters and waterfall. Opportunities to work stations from Antarctica don't come along every day, and both VK0TBC and VK0DS are providing the amateur radio community with a rare chance to put the frozen continent in the log.
