Expression of Interest: Help Manage the New WIA Affiliated Clubs Discord

Date : 17 / 09 / 2026
Author : WIA

The Wireless Institute of Australia is calling for Expressions of Interest from WIA members who would like to help moderate and manage the new WIA Affiliated Club Executives Discord community.

The Discord platform is built and ready to go. It has been developed as a dedicated communication and collaboration resource for the executives of WIA Affiliated Clubs, providing a place where club leaders can exchange ideas, discuss common challenges, share resources and experience, and communicate more directly with each other and the WIA.

We are now looking for a small team of WIA members to work with the WIA Board and WIA Clubs Coordinator Angelo Giuffre VK2NWT to help manage the community. The team will assist with moderation, maintaining a welcoming and constructive environment, helping organise discussions and resources, and supporting the development of the Discord as a useful national club-management resource.

Experience administering Discord, social media platforms or other online communities would certainly be useful, but it is not essential. More important is an interest in supporting amateur radio clubs, an ability to communicate constructively, sound judgement and a willingness to work collaboratively with the WIA and club executives around Australia.

The initiative follows discussions with WIA Affiliated Club Presidents and forms part of the WIA's broader work to improve communication, engagement and support for its network of Affiliated Clubs. Rather than every club having to solve the same governance, membership, event, communications and organisational problems independently, the Discord will provide another mechanism for club executives to share what works, ask questions and learn from one another.

Interested?

WIA members interested in joining the moderation and management team are invited to submit a brief Expression of Interest outlining their interest and any relevant experience.

EOIs should be sent to: secretary@wia.org.au

Please include your name, callsign, contact details and a short outline of why you would like to be involved. Previous social media or Discord management experience can also be included, but is not a prerequisite.

This is an opportunity to make a practical contribution to strengthening the connections between amateur radio clubs across Australia and helping turn the new platform into a genuinely useful resource for the people running them.
