The Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) is inviting affiliated amateur radio clubs that are currently unincorporated to attend the third and final webinar in its Club Governance Training Series, being held on Sunday 18 October 2026 at 5:00 pm AEDT.
This free, WIA-funded webinar for affiliated clubs is specifically designed for clubs considering incorporation and wanting to understand the benefits, responsibilities and practical steps involved in becoming an incorporated association.
Why Should Your Club Consider Incorporation?
Many amateur radio clubs begin as informal groups of enthusiasts who share a common interest in radio, electronics and experimentation. As clubs grow, however, they may acquire equipment, operate repeaters, lease or own premises, manage funds, organise public activities and enter into agreements with other organisations. At that point, having an appropriate legal structure becomes increasingly important.
The precise requirements and benefits depend on the relevant state or territory legislation, and incorporation also brings ongoing reporting, financial and governance obligations.
Understanding the Process
The webinar will explain the steps and procedures involved in becoming incorporated, helping club executives understand what is required and what incorporation could mean for their organisation.
The session will run for approximately one hour, including time for questions.
This is an opportunity for unincorporated clubs to explore their options and make an informed decision about whether incorporation is appropriate for their circumstances.
How to Attend
WIA Affiliated Clubs Coordinator Angelo Giuffre VK2NWT advises that an invitation was emailed to affiliated clubs last week.
Clubs wishing to attend must register their interest by replying to that invitation email. The meeting link will then be provided.
Any club that has not received the invitation but wishes to participate should contact Angelo as soon as possible at:
clubs@nationaloffice.wia.org.au
Keep Your WIA Club Contact Details Up to Date
Angelo is also reminding all affiliated clubs to check that their contact information on the WIA website is current.
In particular, clubs that have recently held their Annual General Meeting and elected new committee members should update their WIA club webpage promptly.
Accurate contact details ensure that invitations, governance information, important announcements and other WIA communications reach the appropriate club representatives.
The WIA's Club Governance Training Series is part of its continuing commitment to supporting affiliated clubs, strengthening volunteer leadership and helping amateur radio organisations remain sustainable and effective.
If your club is unincorporated and considering its future, this is a valuable opportunity to learn about the options.
