The Wireless Institute of Australia (WIA) Board has outlined eight strategic priorities that will guide its work over the next 12 months, strengthening the services, support and opportunities available to amateur radio operators and affiliated clubs across Australia.
Established in August 2026 and shared with affiliated clubs during the WIA's recent Affiliated Clubs Webinars, these priorities provide a clear and practical direction for the WIA as it continues to represent, support and promote amateur radio nationally.
Under the banner "Our Strategy. Our Future.", the priorities reflect the WIA's SHAPE approach: Support, Help through Education, Advocate, Promote and Engage.
Eight Priorities for 2026–2027
The WIA Board has identified eight key areas of focus:
RES/WIA Integration & Clubs – Strengthening education and assessment services and extending support to affiliated clubs.
VKCallbook Online – Developing a modern, opt-in online callsign and amateur radio information service.
Communication That Connects – Improving regular communication and engagement with members, clubs and the broader amateur radio community.
Web Presence Refresh – Modernising the WIA's online presence to make information and services easier to find and access.
Education & Syllabus Renewal – Reviewing learning pathways, modernising education resources and supporting club-based training.
ACMA Advocacy & Engagement – Representing amateur radio interests through ongoing regulatory advocacy and engagement with the ACMA.
Contesting Consultation & Management – Strengthening national contesting through consultation, improved management and greater participation.
Spectrum Management & Technical Support – Protecting amateur radio spectrum, maintaining band plans and providing technical advice and support.
Turning Priorities into Action
The WIA Board is working closely with its various committees, volunteers and subject matter experts to progress each of these priorities.
Some are longer-term strategic projects requiring careful planning, consultation and development. Others are shorter-term initiatives that can deliver practical improvements more quickly.
While the scale and complexity of these projects vary, they share one common objective: improving amateur radio in Australia.
The Board recognises that meaningful progress depends on collaboration, realistic expectations and the valuable contributions of the volunteers who support the WIA's national activities.
These eight priorities are not simply a list of aspirations. They provide a framework for coordinating effort, setting direction and delivering improvements that benefit individual amateurs, affiliated clubs and the wider amateur radio community.
Together We SHAPE the Future
The WIA will continue to share progress with affiliated clubs and members as these initiatives develop, including through its Affiliated Clubs Webinars and regular communication channels.
The WIA encourages all amateur radio operators and affiliated clubs to familiarise themselves with the priorities and contribute ideas, expertise and feedback as the projects progress.
Our Strategy. Our Future. Together We SHAPE the Future.
