Last weekend, August 27 and 28 the first WIA assessor-training seminar was held in Unley, a suburb of Adelaide, South Australia. 19 very keen and highly motivated amateurs gathered for the weekend event, the prize for the person travelling the longest distance went to Jeff Farmer from Alice
Springs. People also travelled from many places in South Australia and Western Victoria including, Mildura, Berri, Millicent, Whyalla and various Adelaide suburbs.

At the end of the weekend Fred Swainson had trained 19 brand new WIA assessors. If we add these to the list of people who already hold suitable
qualifications the WIA has a total to date of 49 people qualified people to be shortly accredited as WIA assessors.

At the close of business on Friday, August 26, the WIA office had received 86 applications for training.

The WIA on behalf of the amateur radio service would like to thank all those people who have applied and all those applicants who have give up a weekend and in some cases travelled thousands of kilometres to attend. And most of all thanks to Fred for giving up four of his weekends, the time required to travel and the time required preparing for the training.
