Club Affiliation

Date : 07 / 09 / 2005
Author : Ted Thrift - VK2ARA

Club affiliation is a "no cost" mutual bond of co-operation between Amateur Radio clubs and the Wireless Institute of Australia. Prior to 16 May 2004, most clubs were affiliated with their respective Divisions. These Divisions no longer exist as part of the WIA structure. When the new WIA was formed, all known clubs were given "provisional affiliation" as part of the 'no disadvantage' objectives of the restructure. This was to give the WIA, and the clubs, some breathing space.

Time and progress with development of WIA services causes us to now encourage clubs to formalise affiliation by submitting their application. This is essential to ensure that your club has ongoing access to WIA services, particularly at this time, Exam Assessors and the Liability Insurance.

You may also want to ensure that your club can have access to;

 Callbook and Book shop sales.
 WIA Corporate wear and accessories.
 Amateur radio promotion material.
Technical support for repeaters and beacons.
 WIA representation on local issues.
Training resources for all Licence levels.
 Advertising of your clubs events.
Listing of your club info in the Callbook and the web page
An opportunity to bid for a club grant for community projects.

At the first week of September 91 clubs had affiliated with the WIA For further information please read and download the clubs information from the WIA web site, www.wia.org.au
LIABILITY INSURANCE. The next opportunity for affiliated clubs to take up the WIA/QBE insurance will be 1 October 2005.
Clubs are not obliged to take up this offer. It is just another WIA service.

You might consider these points.

Overall costs of the policy have been reduced by the WIA doing most of the administrative work, at no cost to clubs and no gain to the WIA.

The WIA pays the "per member" cost for club members who are also WIA members.

The policy has been tailored to specifically "Include" liability cover for Club members and Voluntary workers.

You do not have to take up this offer if you want to affiliate, but you do need to be an affiliated club if you want this insurance cover. Additional information on the insurance can be found by reading all of the information in the clubs area of the WIA web site www.wia.org.au If you have 'ANY' questions, please contact Chris Jones ( WIA Secretary) at vk2zdd@wia.org.au , myself at the address below, or any other Director of the WIA.
