Tasmania is about to welcome 15 new foundation licensees

The Radio Electronics Group of Southern Tasmania held a Foundation Licence Training and Assessment weekend at their Clubrooms in Hobart last week. Fifteen participants attended training on Saturday, they included a 15 year old school boy, a number in their 20's, an Amateur's XYL. Their background varied but included some who had attempted the former Novice exams and others who had used CB for many years but never before taken the step to Amateur Radio. Four had assisted with WICEN operations coordinating car trials so had some valuable operating experience.

Although the only trainer and Assessor was Reg VK7KK, the group received much operating practice and training from a number of helping Amateurs both at the Clubrooms and over the air. The larger group was split into a number of smaller groups for this instruction.

Ten candidates were assessed on Sunday; the other 5 will receive their tests next weekend. The Practical assessments were spread over 2 days so by Monday night all 10 candidates had been assessed as competent.

It is hoped that by the end of next weekend there will be 15 newly qualified VK7's. Thanks to all the REAST members who supported this event.
