IARU R3 News Release

Today the 15th IARU Region 3 conference concluded after working sessions of four days were successfully concluded. A record number of 16 regional societies were represented by over 80 delegates and observers. Also attending were IARU President Tim Ellam VE6SH, and representatives from Regions 1 & 2, as well as IARU Secretary Rod Stafford W6ROD.

The conference was hosted by the Vietnam Amateur Radio Club (VARC). This is a very small member society with some 50 enthusiastic members who did a magnificent job hosting this significant international event. The WIA was represented by Geoff Atkinson VK3TL and Peter Young VK3MV.

The theme of this conference was emergency communications and preparedness where a significant number of papers were submitted by member societies. Other reports from Regional Co-ordinators were also presented. A number of important administrative issues were discussed and agreements reached. Notably was the decision to place the Region 3 finances on a more stable footing and the appointment of an additional Director from 5 to 6.
