WIA addresses ACMA cost recovery paper

Date : 19 / 01 / 2007
Author : Michael Owen - VK3KI

A number of members have seen the paper "Cost recovery arrangements for services provide d by ACMA" placed on the ACMA website just before Christmas, calling for comment by 1 February.

A 15% increase in the non-tax component of amateur licence fees is proposed, as well as substantial increases in the cost of amateur examinations conducted by ACMA.

As a number of matters in the paper were not clear, WIA President Michael Owen VK3KI and Peter Young VK3MV sought a meeting with ACMA officers and on Thursday 18 January 2007 they attended a videoconference with ACMA officers in Sydney and Canberra.

The WIA can assure those of you who were concerned that the increase in amateur examination fees do not affect the examination fees charged by the WIA, and applies only in the very rare case of a special examination undertaken in unusual circumstances by ACMA.

The WIA will be lodging a submission in relation to the proposed amateur licence fee increase.
