Club Activities & Events

- Central Highlands ARC AGM report !

The Central Highlands Amateur Radio Club AGM Weekend was held, well, last weekend !
Many hams and support crews turned up from as far north as Townsville, from as far south as Ipswich, and some took the long way via Birdsville to partake in yet another great ham gathering.
Quite a few took part in the Saturday Lunch Sausage Sizzle with this new event well supported.
Saturday evening rocked around and after a superb BBQ feast put on by CHARC the serious part, the Annual General Meeting took place.
Chairman Steve VK4SMW invited TARC Vice President Gavin VK4ZZ to make a special presentation - The Ken Robertson VK4KT Memorial Award for Excellence in Amateur Radio to Roy Moore VK4RM (the award was announced at the North Queensland Amateur Radio Convention). Roy in turn dedicated the winning of the award to many hams who have helped him out during the years with repeater establishment and maintenance issues.
After the Minutes from the previous AGM and Treasurers Report were read and accepted, Chairman Steve declared all positions vacant and handed the meeting over to WIA-QAC Chairman Don VK4BY to conduct the election of office bearers for 2010. The results are -
President - Steve Wood VK4SMW
Vice President - Rob Waegele VK4TW
Secretary - Gordon Loveday VK4KAL
Treasurer - Dot Loveday
Technical Officer - Steve Wood VK4SMW
Publicity Officer - Helen Wood
Committee Member - Harry Cox VK4LE
Committee Member - Roy Moore VK4RM
Committee Member - Bill Horner VK4FW
The meeting applauded Don for the smooth running of the election, then Chairman Steve informed the meeting about some of the things the Club was involved with during the year, including -
- improvements to Springsure repeater site and agreement with local council
- refurbishment of the Hodgsons Range repeater site
- WIA assessment activity
- welcoming two new members into the club
- awarding thanks certificates to key helpers

With the meeting completed it was time to draw the raffles !
- Lucky Door Prize, a $50 Fuel Voucher donated by Shell, won by Mark VK4KMR
- Hamper First Prize, a lovely travel hamper donated by Helen Wood, won by Lyndall VK4ZM
- Hamper Second Prize, a bottle of lovely wine donated by Roy VK4RM, won by Michael VK4SED
- Hamper Third Prize, a bottle of lovely wine donated by Roy VK4RM, won by Roy VK4RM (it was lovely so he kept it !)
- Radio First Prize, a Wouxun KG-UVD1 Dual Band Handheld donated by Mal VK4ML, won by Lyndall VK4ZM
- Radio Second Prize, a LDG 1:1 Balun donated by Jack VK4JRC, won by Rob VK4TW
- Radio Third Prize, a bottle of lovely wine donated by Roy VK4RM, won by John VK4FNQ
- Radio Fourth Prize, a bottle of lovely wine donated by Roy VK4RM, won by Dave VK4UN

- then it was Monster Auction Time.
Roy VK4RM was the Auctioneer of Renown, Bill VK4FW was the Scribe of Doom, Clive VK4ACC and Steve VK4SMW were the Barrel Girls of Despair.
The Monster Auction consisted of technical treasures, some really yummy home cooked thingies donated by Helen Wood and some mysteriously wrapped items donated by various people.
The little morse keys were popular, as were the antennae, the lifetime supply of microphones and curly cords. The home cooked produce was extremely popular and we don't know yet if the two US Army Meals Ready to Eat from the mystery section have yet been deployed.

With the Monster Auction ended the group talked into the late evening, some remarking on how blustery the wind was getting (take 2 of the dust storms) with the latest to bed by 1am.
The Sunday Morning Recovery Breakfast was heartily attended by the throng with appetites quenched and ready for the long trips back home.

Many thanks to those involved with the procuring and cooking, Gordon VK4KAL and Dot, Steve VK4SMW and Helen, Dawn VK4HER, Gavin VK4ZZ and everyone else who pitched in.
A great weekend - if you are looking to enjoy yourselves and also help support a little club doing a great big job then make sure you get along to the Central Highlands AGM in 2010 !
