First established in 1988 the Tablelands Radio and Electronics Club Inc. (TREC) is the leading club in Far North Queensland. TREC is located on the Atherton Tablelands - about 50km SW of Cairns, in beautiful Tropical Far North Queensland, Australia. Situated about 750m above sea level on the Atherton Tablelands (a volcanic plateau) the area provides a ideal place for radio operations. TREC members have an interest in amateur radio and electronics.

Foxhunts are conducted from time to time with great enthusiasm with our popular sausage sizzle afterwards. The club is also active in the VHF/UHF area of operations and regularly participates in field day contests.

TREC operates 3 repeater stations as well as the club station.

VK4RBK 439.900MHz FM -5MHz shift at Bones Knob, Tolga.

VK4RPH 147.0625MHz FM -1.6MHz shift at McHugh Lookout, Millaa Millaa.

VK4RHT 146.675MHz FM -600 shift CTCSS 123 at Hann Tableland, Mareeba

VK4RHT 6 metre beacon on 50.281 CW QH23pc

The TREC club station callsign is VK4WAT.

A special event callsign VK4XQA is used for contests and other radio events.
XQA was the first amateur radio callsign issued in Queensland to Marcus Brims at Mareeba in 1914.

We meet at the Tablelands Regional Council Community Education & Disaster Coordination Center Vernon St Atherton on the 3rd Saturday of the month. Normal starting time is around 0900 hrs for coffee, conversation, workshops, and the odd 'home-brew' electronics competition.
