Introduction

NERG is a club devoted to encouraging members and others to enjoy the hobby of amateur radio. It tries not to hang on ceremony and procedures but rather participate in the fun aspects of this fascinating hobby.
The club began in 1984 as a group of hidden transmitter and DX contesters from the outer North-East suburbs of Melbourne where the group still meets. The group has always had a strong commitment to helping others join the hobby and gain the necessary skills and radio licenses to get "on the air".

Meetings

The main NERG meeting is held on the second Thursday of each month (except in December and January) with our Annual General Meeting held in August. Formalities are usually dispensed with quickly to make time for a guest speaker, followed by supper and a chance for members to chat over a slice of Pizza.

Informal "coffee shop" meetings are held on the fourth Thursday night of each month. This meeting is intended for informal group discussion about amateur topics, a chance to seek help from other members, to show off your latest toys, or simply to enjoy a friendly cuppa!

Both meetings start at 8 PM at the Briar Hill Community Hall, 126 Mountain View Road, Briar Hill (Melway map 21-C3).Visitors are always welcome.
See the NERG website at http://nerg.asn.au for up to date meeting subjects and activities.
The NERG runs a net on 146.575Mhz FM simplex on the non-meeting nights on the first, third and fifth Thursday of the month at 2030-2130hrs. Listen out for the Club Callsign VK3CNE. All are welcome to join in.This channel is also used by members for local simplex contacts throughout the day (and night!).

Club Activities & Events

NERG members are active in most areas of the hobby including DX'ing, antenna and radio construction, hidden transmitter hunting, emergency communications, rag chewing, and socialising.

The club participates in several annual radio contests such as the John Moyle Field Day and the Remembrance Day contest under the callsign VK3CNE.

NERG runs the following amateur beacons and voice repeaters with the callsign VK3RMH.
